Thank you to everyone for viewing my post
Despite the fact that i posted it for the single purpose of gaining signatures on the petition ,
NOT to hear everyone's opinion about- her deceitful mother / media coverage / Nancy Grace / jurors / etc etc etc.

Literally- its no longer about Casey Anthony. whats done is done. Caylee is gone , Casey is free
IMO she got off on a technicality> that being she successfully led police on a wild goose chase while all the "smoking gun" DNA evidence was disintegrating.
This isn't a hard concept people. >currently Florida law states it is not in violation of the law for a parent to fail to report a missing child.
why wouldn't we want to change that? How could you not think it might save one child in the future?
The petition created at change.org was to create legislation making it a felony to fail to report a missing child.

From this website http://www.wokv.com/news/news/local/state-rep-wants-caylees-law-florida/nC4ch/ "State Representative Bill Hayger from South Florida says Anthony should have faced more serious prison time for not reporting her 2-year-old daughter missing after a month.
"One of the reactions I had after the verdict is that under current law in Florida, it is not a violation of the law for a parent to fail to report a missing child who is obviously in danger," says Hayger.
So Hayger is crafting Caylee's Law.
"The proposed legislation that I have come forward with would provide that a parent that so failed to acts under Florida law would be guilty of a felony," he says.
The law would make it a felony for failing to report a missing child in a timely manner. It would apply in cases when the parent knew or should have known the child was in danger."

So thank you to anyone who did sign the petition , due to it going "viral" on the web plus the amount of personal emails that flooded the state reps inboxes- it caught the attention it needed.

After the Duneblane shooting incident the UK brought in laws banning handguns, since then gun crime is higher than before. You need to stop and think before bringing in yet another law not act as a kneejerk reaction.

If the intent of the law is to save children and if it were a law currently it would not have helped the child, if the intent is to punish a parent then it might have put Casey in jail as a plan B but do nothing for the child. Punishing a parent for purposefully not reporting a missing child seems inadequate to a murder charge. You can no more legislate morality than you can responsibility or common sense. I can see it now a parent getting 2 years in jail for a runaway child from a bored prosecutor because the child gets killed from whatever which saying the child ran away as a defense would get you out of jail BTW. The answer here is to present a better case which is in fact what the defense did. I would not sign this petion. Sorry

While I agree with you in part, I believe justice for Caylee would have been done had she been reported missing and her body found sooner.

JP, I realize you started this for signatures only, but people will give their opinions on open forums about topics brought up. My own is that I would never vote for, or support something like this. If someone polished it up and gave it some deep thought, and drafted something with input from various experts (from those who deal with laws to those who work with children who consistently run away), I would consider it anew. This seems poorly thought out and reactionary to me in its current form. It is vague and leaves too much open.

There are several other "give your opinion " threads on BYC regarding this whole case.
I certainly would not throw my opinion at someone who cares not to hear it- but i guess some people like to hear themselves talk.

Thanks again to all those who support taking action to change an obviously unjust lack of legislation regarding unreported missing children . I have nothing more to say for those who don't. .

I do not know of another thread that addresses this exact topic (proposed law), but do know of several sites that you can link or post petitions that do not allow comments. I would recommend posting to such sites instead. I doubt it is the case for most that they like to hear themselves talk, and more that many people prefer to discuss topics and listen as well as give input, especially on proposals that could prove relevant to and effect their lives. Even if you personally do not wish to acknowledge discussion on this topic, other people posting or simply reading may, and I hope that others signing will give some consideration to any potential problems, whether they end up agreeing or disagreeing with them. I would hope that anyone trying to push forward laws seriously consider their actual (not intended) impact. Though hearing some of the reasons people I know vote for presidents ("he's sexy", "he's from a state I like), I know this is not always the case. XD
