Cayuga duck harvest

Yes it is. I raise ducks and I eat ducks but I pay a fortune for the eating kind at the grocery cause I just can't. But I know the excess drakes must go somewhere and I would rather feed a human than coyote, so I try to be practical about it.
I would be a hypocrite If I told you I didn't feel the same way. I just know it's a touchy subject for some. :)

Because their skin is dark grey, they don't make a very appealing carcass. so you might not find much about them. I would probably follow any dual purpose like Rouen.
That's good advice, thank you! As far as the carcass is concerned, we sorta knew that when we chose a breed, but we think their eggs are beautiful and the old timers seem to think the meat is exceptional!

I've seen anywhere from 12 weeks to 6 months for Cayugas. My first mama-hatched brood hatched May 31 to June 1. I had two Pekin hens in with my Cayugas, and two of these boys are HUGE compared to the rest. I'll likely harvest those two at 12 weeks, and wait until November for the rest.
