cayuga duck thread

It's definitely a challenge to do anything but watch the bator lol. We started with a clutch of 20 eggs and I read going in about the mortality rate of eggs. And the father is a Crested duck so unfortunately I was expecting 50% hatch or lower. Hopefully we go 9 for 20.

Me too. A crested Cayuga?

There's the momma (Cayuga) and both of the males (white Cresteds). We have since rehomed one of the males.

And there is the first duckling hatched, can see a small crest.

And duckling number 2 aka Miracle also has a small crest.

Can see their coloring alot better. Love the colors. Yep I see the crests. Are you giving them Brewers yeast on their feed or niacin in their drinking water very important for water fowl if you are using chick starter. Pretty adults too.

We are using the niacin in their water. Thanks for the advise.

Actually my wife just told me the feed store sold her meat grower feed when she went in to get feed for the chicks. Should I still use niacin or the brewers? Switch the feed?

I feed Broiler which sounds similar but on my bag it rec you start feeding it at 2 weeks. So at 2 weeks old I started my chicks on it mixed with chick starter.I had a bantam that hatched chicks 4 weeks ago. [I did this with my ducklings back in spring too] I actually use Broiler over winter when no one is laying because it's the closest I can get to All flock in Non GMO feed. Does the meat grower feed show how much niacin is in it? they need at least 150mgs daily.

Is it ok to add the brewers yeast to the feed if it is labeled that it has a Niacin supplement? I don't want to over dose them
