I am new to ducks but my kids raised 4 ducks this summer. 3 pekin and 1 cayuga. I had one female pekin and one cayuga female. My question is will the pekin and cayuga cross? I bought an additional cayuga drake this weekend so she will have a drake of her own breed.

I figure they will but thought I would ask.

Yep, they will mix it up. Now you'll have three males for two females. Keep an eye on your females to make sure they aren't overbred. You may want to look into getting more females.

Mabe I will part with the pekin. I would really rather have all cayuga and not have to coop them up for breeding. They love being on the pond. The problem is they are pets and my kids will be very sad.

Do ducks sit on their clutch often?

My understanding is that Pekins are not very good setters. Not sure about Cayugas.

Well my ducks are a mix or Cayuga and Blue Swiss. They mostly look like Blue Swiss, but some of them are this gorgeous green and black color! I don't know why they wouldn't mix.
