Cayuga or Black runner? (added even more pics) see last post

Not trying to burst any bubbles, but I'd say the black duck is a mix of some sort.
Not horizontal and heavy enough for a Cayuga, and not vertical and slight enough for
runner. Perhaps a mix of both. That would account for the build and the color.
Cayuga with a black runner maybe.

Best,

Thanks. It's really so hard to tell sometimes from some of the hatcheries. From Metzers (ordered on my own) the breeds were clear, from Ideal (what the feed store uses) it got a little fuzzy- had a hard time figuring out 2 of them.

It is still a really good looking bird. Did it end up being a duck or drake.
My first batch, I got lucky. I got them from a small poultry farm that got all its
duck stock from Holderread. Got a beauty of a Blue Runner hen and silver WH hen, then got
a good WH drake and two surprise drakes. One a WH/Cayuga mix (looks like Cayuga Drake all over) and a WH/Buff (looks like Buff Drake all over). But still have them all, just flushed it out with some more WH hens and planning on adding a couple
more runner hens. Talk about great eggs. You will be very happy with your runner hens when they start laying.
The Welshies are good to, just a bit harder to peel as hard boileds.

Best of luck with your flock.

Thanks! She turned out to be a girl and she acts a lot like the fawn and white runners- her eggs look like their eggs too. An off green tint. I think she is just a pet quality black runner and I have crested that also looks to be a very healthy but low quality crested runner (drake). My ducks are laying like gang busters. I have 11 ducks and get 7 to 9 eggs a day. 2 ducks aren't laying yet. So basically an egg a day from all my breeds that are laying. Love it!
