My Reese is 20 week old CCX pullet and tonight she started following me around and bawking if she couldn't see me. I brought her inside and she napped on floor with the dog.
Just before bed time I tried to take her to the coop but she fought me and ran over to the couch.
She kept making little hops and would honk to make sure I was watching her.
Eventually I picked her up and sat her next to me on couch ( no struggle there). Reese snuggled up close to my hip, and started breathing through her beak loudly ( she started doing this for attention when she was little).
I let her climb into my lap and she purred and was content to be petted and talked to for awhile.
Suddenly she jumped up on to my chest and tried to climb on top of my shoulder where she used to sit before she was 10 weeks.
It struck me as odd, because she hasn't sat on a shoulder for a long time!
She started panting and clicking her beak when I told her no and sat her back in my lap.
The panting is starting to worry me because she is a big girl and old for her breed.
Any insight into why a hen would suddenly want to climb a person?
Is she missing being a baby? Lol

How lovely! I appreciate that she's not exhibiting her normal behaviour but the fact she's coming to you is truly a measure of how much she trusts you.

We have a light sussex that has turned into a huge bird and she pants too. I think it is more noticeable when it's very hot and also when she is stressed. She's docile but not as friendly as your girl is. If it's heat, give her a bowl of water to get into - if she wants to.

If it is overweight, then perhaps cut back on the treats if you give her lots of scratch for example.

Finally, if the panting gets worse, consider taking her to the vet in case she has picked up a repository disease.

Good luck - I am slightly jealous of the relationship you have with her - it sounds really special!
