CELADON QUAIL??????!!!!!!!!

I've seen a spectrum of brown-to-gray for the wild-type (regular gene expression) pharaoh pattern, can't tell you which is most "normal." The only birds I've seen change pattern or color have been the pearls, who seem to lose and gain spots between molts.

I can agree with the pearls. I have had that happen before. As with the pharaoh, I have only ever had them as adults. I did have a hen hatch last year but a rat got her before she could moult.

That egg just has extra bloom on it. It doesn't look like a celadon.
