Welcome to BYC Lucy! It's possible your RIR have been pecked, or they could be moulting. Be careful buying more chickens and mixing them together. It is recommended that you "quarantine" new birds because you could be introducing a disease to your entire flock. As far as the egg laying, it takes some birds time to get used to new surroundings and they can stop laying for some time. Most hens will lay an egg a day or every other day.

In time, you'll have enough posts to post pictures, and then a bunch of people will give their opinion as to what kinds of chickens you have. Most "Rhode Island Reds" turn out to be production reds. This isn't a bad thing. PRs lay very well, I have some myself.

There's all kinds of chicken advice and sometimes disagreements on methods on BYC, you can search and find nearly anything on here! Welcome to the chicken world!

Welcome from Spring Hill Florida!
Is that the auction in Bushnell?

Anyway, congrats on your new obsession. How many eggs? It's cyclic. There's a high, where you may get a dozen, and a low, where you may get 2. There are many factors why.

Best thing to do now is check them for bugs, and you may want to worm them (Dawg53) when they've settled in and they're not stressed.

Seems everyone's molting.

Have fun!
