Cephalexin Dosage for Chickens

Hi,

I have a chicken that was attacked by a dog two days ago. She has several not too big cuts near her tail that I am concerned about. I have cephalexin capsules, but cannot find any dosing information for chickens. The only info I found was for treating an entire flock via water. I was planning on mixing her dose into wet cat food, so I was hoping to find a mg/lb (or kg) chart for poultry.

And Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook says:

• 35-50 mg/kg by mouth four times a day (Clubb 1986)
• 40-100 mg/kg by mouth every six hours (Hoeffer 1995)

Thank you so much for your quick reply. The skin around the wounds seems to be darkening, which may just be bruising, but I'd rather go ahead and start her on a course.

Hi there!! Did you end up using it and what dose did you do? My 8 week old chick seems to have a ear infection so I was going to give her a low dose.

How much does you chick weigh?

Probably a pound, maybe less. she is out in the rain right now. I was thinking 50 mg twice a day.
