My cuckoo maran has recently laid a very strange looking egg, it is extremely pale and covered in chalky rough material that is white-ish gray. Her back feathers are also dirty and caked in this substance. Her behavior is normal and she doesn't exhibit any other symptoms, but there is clearly something wrong with her hind end. Is there any illness or problem this could be related to? I'm considering soaking her in a vinegar bath, but don't want to take any measures before knowing what might be wrong.

Any suggestions?

Can you post some photos?

Chalky substance on eggs could be calcium deposits. What type of food/treats do you feed - do you provide oyster shell free choice?

If she has a nasty bum, it won't hurt to get her cleaned up. Give her a washing in warm soapy water (original Dawn works well) work the suds through the bum feathers to get the poop out. Some poop can be stubborn, you may need to trim some feathers.
