Just wondering IF the chickens change their behavior as they get older? My rir's are about 6 weeks old now and I have some black aust. and one sexlink and they are about 4 weeks old now. The black ones just aren't friendly at all no matter how much I try hand feeding them but the rir's are a different story. They come running when I come around and am just hoping they stay like this and don't get aggressive as they get older. Was just curious if they did or not? Am still working with those black ones but they just don't want me touching them whatsoever! The rir's don't like it but they don't freak out like the black ones do.

the way to a chickens heart is thru their stomach. Try putting some corn or boss (black oil sunflower seeds) in a can . Take it with you when you check on the birds and be sure and shake it so they learn the sound. Then you could throw some to the chicks. After a couple days of that you could try getting in the run with them and sitting somewhere when you shake the can. In time they will be tripping all over you to get the goodies before someone else does. This leads to older chicks flying into your lap, or on your head and shoulders. Before you know it you've become Santa Claus and they love you (well chicken love anyhow).

doing that with chops now but the black ones are still acting like that. :( I DID have ONE hop up on my leg yesterday evening which shocked me good. BUT I think it was because the RIR did it first and it was just mocking the rir. I've also been giving them treats of catfood broken up and toss it into a shallow pan of water so they can eat it since it's soooo hard. They really like fishing it out of the water once they realized they liked the taste. They're not eating cucumber though. I'll sit and cut it up in tiny pieces and they still wont eat it. Spoiling them I guess. ;-)
