Coop lights came on so I went to check on Onyx and the littles, all seems well, she's clucking to them and they are all over and under her. I'll grab pics after work

Looking forward to seeing pics of course, and curious what the meal maker ends up being.Little man was leg banded correct?

No leg band unfortunately, and they stopped keeping track of what the meal maker was, only that they are "all pullets", so we'll just have to wait and see. The last egg quit, so there are just these 4 little turds.

Just checked the camera and apparently the chicks sent Nymeria into full blown broody, AGAIN! She was totally back to normal all week Zoom in on the video, that's her screeching in the nest box right next to where Onyx and her littles are. The little gate will come down after I get home.

No clue, but I think it's dumb, lol! Thank you, but it's ok, these littles definitely cost more, but at least I have a breed I'll actually keep

I had to look back at my photos to see the date, and 2021 was when I ordered the BCM thru Meyers and Kong was banded.

Yes I do think that's dumb, also. I specifically asked them at time of order tho if he would be banded and they confirmed it. So I thought it was just a given that they do, but it is curious why they've stopped.

I bet you won't have a problem in the next week or two finding him, tho.

Another question I've been pondering is if you've found out what varieties the Wheaton's play well together with.

I don't know myself...was just curious if you had any thoughts of getting more and playing with breeding.

If the other chicks are pullets, the Meal Maker chick should be a pullet too. The website says they match the kind of chick to what you are ordering (layer vs. broiler):

For anyone ordering from other hatcheries: check details of the place you are ordering, because different hatcheries do things differently. For example, McMurray hatchery offers a free chick that will almost always be a male. They do call it something else, not a "meal maker."

I'll be keeping an eye on these little boogers to see who the little man is. They still leg band some of their "rare breeds" but that's it.

My main project would be to cross the Wheaten roo to the Isabel Ameraucana hens and the Wheaten Ameraucana hen. The Isabel F1 cross will give me Wheaten colored OE chicks that are split to lavender (keep a cockerel and breed back to the Isabels for Wheaten split to lavender and Isabel chicks) The Wheaten Ameraucana hen cross will just give me Wheaten OE's. Any black birds I have, will just make black chicks with probable leakage. Any chicks from Judith will be sexlinked, black pullets, blue cockerels. Any chicks from my WTB will be paint. I hope that answered your question.
