Oh that's a beautiful first egg !! I love the speckles.

My pullets usually all darken up a tad within the first week. The dark speckles you see are what her potential is to possibly cover the egg either fully are partial. No guarantees of course but in case you didn't know, I've always read Chooks man say in the Marans thread to watch their first 20-30 eggs, this gives us the average true egg color they will lay.

Here's a few pics just to show what I mean for comparison.

This was Angels first egg 11-27-23.... pretty speckles.

These were were her first 18. Back row, left to right are her first, then left to right middle, then left to right front.

And this is pretty close to what she lays now. Not fully covered but a nice dark end.

Hope that helps, looking forward to seeing more from her and Louise's first egg also.🙂

Gorgeous eggs, and thank you for the info. I look forward to seeing what her end product is. I've got a lot of decisions to make come this spring 😉😊

Egg #2 is in play, the other one is from my light brahma, Maribel. On another note, Onyx has kicked the littles to the curb, but Dahlia is still momma henning them🤣
