My young hens are on Purina medicated starter food, but I have to go to the next town to find it so I want to change brands. Should I just mix them over a few days, like I would for most animals?

In order to be effective, the medicated chick feed needs to be fed exclusively. If it's time to change them to an unmedicated feed, then mixing the new with the old does make transitions easier, although don't panic if you get low on the one before the other. the chickens may not be pleased, but they won't get that wonderful GI upset some dogs experience!

I should have been more specific, they will still be on Medicated chick starter, but just a different brand, for another couple of months till they are laying--
