Changing incubator temp for quails?

I've read monarc's thread (WOW, awesome!) and know that quail is 99.5, and it can range from 99-101 or so, but still I was wondering with those with a Genesis 1588 like mine or others that are factory preset, do you fiddle with switches and change the temperature of your incubator from the 100 for chickens, or do you keep it as it is?

I have quail eggs coming as soon as my chicken hatching is done, and I've never done quail before.

Also, I have an LG turner. I can imagine you need the quail adapter cups for the buttons, but do you really need them for the Jumbo Cortunix? I have a small banty egg in there now, and it seems to hold just fine.

Thanks!! I'm SO excited about getting quail! I finally get to have fertile eggs (I live in the suburbs, and not allowed a rooster), and trying to get the courage to perhaps process them too!

Thank you Steve! That was the answer I was hoping for...

I can't keep mine that steady. The air temp is swinging between 93.8 & 100 right now but I don't know what the radiant is doing because the junky thermometer that came from Walmart.

I have the LG turner also and I just put the quail eggs in that...they don't fall through and do just fine.

I'm stubborn and dont touch my temp on my biggie cabinet incubator anymore it stays at 100.6 as long as it's not too hot or too cold in here... if it's too hot it'll go up to 100.8 and too cold 99.7 and my hatches are still perfecto on the quail, so I don't even concern my self with it so im no expert

With my first batch in an LG, the temp fluctuated a LOT. It was anywhere from 95 to 103. Apparently quail are tough because out of 12 eggs, I had 9 hatch. Of the 3 that didn't, 2 were infertile anyway, so.... say 9 out of 10. (My brooder was kinda wonky though, so I lost a few chicks in there later.

My chicken eggs were in the bator at the same time, and I had NO luck with those. My theory is that quail are better adapted to temp changes because they're closer to being true to nature than chickens are (i.e. less human tampering, even with all the breeding going on). Wild quail are flighty, so I would imagine that they get off their nests often when predators come sniffing around. It would stand to reason that their eggs would have to stand up to weather a bit better than a chicken that's been domesticated for eons.

Just my 2 cents.

That makes sense! I had an LG and it drove me crazy, the spiking temps, the worry, and the chicks that didn't emerge although fully formed. So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a Genesis, and LOVE IT! That's great to know that the little quail eggs will fit, too!

I can't wait to hatch the quail! Another teacher tried button quail for the first time at our school, and they were so tiny, it was amazing! I love the rounded shape of them too, and the calls...heck, I'm just thrilled to finally be able to have fertile eggs to hatch!

I know my eggs coming soon are all Jumbo Browns, but y'all already have me wanting different colors, like the Golden! Next time...

I don't have the 1588, but I do have the 1583. I use an LG for the hatcher, and I always lower the temp to around 99 degrees for the hatch, especially for the button quail. It just seems that they come out better that way.

I have the 1588. Mine sticks between 99 and 100.3 or so (I can't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head). I don't touch it, period. I only touch it to add water, eggs or switch racks. I've had duck eggs, chook eggs, buttons and coturnix ALL in at the exact same time, and, so far, everything looks just fine. In fact, just had a hatch of nine showgirls and silkies (mostly showgirls!) tonight. Those eggs were in with the quail and duck eggs.

I move mine to the hatcher (LG) when there are about 5 days left. This sucker has a higher swing, but so far, it's been alright. It's usually on the lower end, like 98's to 99's, and sometimes goes up to 100.
