Hi...This is kind of an unusual question BUT I have these Buff Laced Brahma 2 hens and 1 rooster they came from Carolina Rare Chicks as chicks. The hens are marked perfect for the breed the rooster not so much but he is purebred . Last year two eggs from the hens ( don't know which one ) were put into the incubator and the offspring follow te roosters traits . My question is this... what can I expect if I let them go broody and raise some chicks ,is there a chance I get true to the breed markings or more white splashes . Now if I change roosters because of this how long will the hens carry his genes ...10 or 15 eggs ???? Thanks for looking ...Tom

What color is your rooster? If one hen produced white splashes, they probably both will, but we can't know without knowing the color of the rooster.

Hens can carry the rooster's sperm for up to a month. But if you add in a new rooster, the egg might get his sperm instead, so any chicks incubated less than a month after the switch would have unknown parentage.

That's the rooster I'm talking about in my avatar he is mostly white with light and dark brown splash on his side the hen I want to breed is the one in the foreground facing him ... thanks for the info it's just what I was looking for . I may try and get another rooster when I get my second coop built and move her into it with him thanks again
