I have two large water containers that I have hanging in the coop and run. They stay somewhat clean. Do I have to change it everyday. I have been changing it once a week and this seems to be fine. Does anyone else do it this way?

I do. I think it's ridiculous to change it daily. These birds will drink out of a mud puddle; they don't care. Now, if they've kicked litter and stuff up into the water I will tip it and clean that stuff out. About once a week (more often during hot weather) I empty the waterers and clean them. I've just started using Oxine in the water, so that helps keep the algae out.

We have two 3 1/2 gallon waterers that do not require daily filling. The girls need refills about three times a week, and Sundays I go out with a big, long handled shower brush and give them a good scrub down with bleach water.. I don't usually change the water, I add to it. Sundays I dump it all out with the scrub down.

I have no troubles with algae or gunk, so I don't think you need to change the water every day.

I know that this is redundant, but the nipple waterers are the way to go. I was wearing myself out not only refilling the waterers, but also cleaning and washing them out. Just think... You would never have to refill those waterers again!

I made a waterer and hooked it up to the arrogation system, I keep watching the water every day some times I need to change it three times a week some time the water stay clean for tow week.
my trick is I installed a sprinkler that comes on twice a day for 5 minutes and keep the soil moist in the run this way there is no dust air born and the water stay clean longer.

I use the 1 gal waterers and yes I do change them all every day. During the summer months I have at least 5 of them to do. I have always felt if I would not drink it them why should my birds. But then I can be very anel with all my animals. lol

They have their advantages, but are harder to keep from freezing than a fountain

My nipple waterer's are easier to keep from freezing. I have them in a bucket and I just drop in an aquarium heater.
Works great.

I don't have automatic water thing

I have have a large bowl out there for them, I change it daily, its not that much work to tip it over, and refill it.

I also change my chicken's water daily. I don't have any fancy waterers--one is a rubber bucket, and the other two are actually plastic dish tubs. So I squirt them out really good, and put fresh in them each evening. I have the time, and I don't mind doing it. I think they appreciate the cold, fresh water, especially during this super hot summer.
