White Chantecler. Chanteclers have very small comb and wattles in both M and F, so it is difficult to use that for ID.

We only have one Chantecler from a straight run batch of chicks, so we cannot compare to another one of the same breed. I posted this in the Chantecler breed thread and have gotten both male and female verdicts. What are the opinions of gender for this bird?

Thanks.

So, the tail feathers are the main reason I have been unsure of gender - they seem a bit long for a female. But, white feathered birds seem harder to determine gender based on feathers anyway (for me - still learning). But, there are still virtually no wattles at nearly 14 weeks, which made me think female.

Chanteclers are bred for long tails.

Good to know! Looking in my APA book, the female pic (hand drawn) does seem to have somewhat elongated tail feathers, but not longer and curving like the hand drawn male pic.
At 14 weeks we should be seeing male specific feathering if this bird was male. From what I see, I'd be willing to bet that this is a pullet nearing lay.

@Folly's place breeds them. I would guess it is pullet, but I've never raised them myself.

@Folly's place replied to my post I. The breed forum and thought possibly cockerel (red comb and longer tail feathers). @BantyChooks replied in that thread also and thought pullet (lack of wattles). So, just looking for more thoughts as I know this breed takes longer to determine M/F.
