Chantecler Thread!

If you get no satisfaction, let me know.  I have several nice White cockerels and I only plan to keep two...have not made my selection and won't for about a month.  I could easily sell a nice pair but would hate to let go of two of these pullets....but...I might be persuaded.

Not planning to feed as many birds this winter as last and I have about 20 Dark Cornish to sort through.  I'm pleased with the conformation of these birds, even the lesser ones.

I have four nice Buckeye cockerels that I'm gonna' just butcher because no one around here knows anything about them (or any of my breeds) so I will just butcher these four Bucks and any other birds that I don't plan to use in my breeding program or don't sell.

What have you got for sale? I have lots of space and will be looking to bring them home in early November if all goes well. Thanks

I'll keep you in mind, we'll only be 30 miles from there and I may be interested in chicks too. Can't wait!!
wonderful! :) We have three mature beautiful white hens and a beauty of a white cockerel now. We also have two buff hens. They all are real great free ranging birds, sweet personality, and large :) I love them and they make a good addition to our flock.

That timing would be great for me.

I can make the White Chantecler trio and perhaps a Dark Cornish trio.

I will work on getting good photos...(with help) I am the worst photographer in the world.

When you see the pics, I feel certain you will be impressed, especially with the Chanteclers. They might not be total show type but they have lots to recommend them...Large birds, even at almost 4 months of age...broad flat backs, large heads, lots of depth and width and long from keel to vent. Totally correct combs. At least something to work with.

Photos soon.

SOLD......
CASH IN HAND

@vickivail98 Just to let you know....our three white hens and two buff hens are John Blehm's stock.

He does have Partridge to sell and breeds to show standards.

I keep standards in mind when selecting keepers in my flock, however, I look for personality, size, and egg laying quality.
Our cockerel is from Cackle Hatchery stock and is very close so far to SOP. I will not take him to shows, however :)

We will see what the spring hatches look like :).

I got my Whites from Cackle too....I think it's the only commercial hatchery that sells Whites but I'm not sure of that...

I feel that many of my birds are close to standard too and I'm happy with that. I'll be keeping two perhaps three of the cockerels but may have two or three nice cockerels for sale by November, when I will make the final cut. They are so close, it's hard to do for me just yet...in fact, I'm going to get 'professional' help for the final cut. There are two very large birds that are great lookers but at this point, too large for me...however strange that may sound. They seem gawky at this point but I know maturity will change their appearance and perhaps my perspective as well as the fine gentleman's opinion when he comes for a visit in mid September.

The Cackle people get their eggs or have stock from a breeder...wonder if John Blehm sold his whites to them? :)

Even though you say you are a bad photographer, still want to see what you end up with. You pictures are good enough for me anyway!

Large is good, but if they are much bigger than the ladies it could cause a problem. I have heard from probably a non-reliable source that the size should really be on the hen side?

Perhaps, but I know they got their basic White stock from Greg Oaks, out of Canada.

At this point, White is the only color they sell...Don't know if that will change or not.

EDIT: My pullets are quite large too but not so glaringly so as the cockerels.

Surprised me too! They are going to make a 6 hour (one-way) drive after I make my cut. They too were impressed by the fact that the parent stock came from Oaks but I will say, the owner of Cackle, Jeff Smith told me that they also got some stock from anther well known breeder but I didn't ask who.
