Chantecler Thread!

Pics
It is great to find a thread dedicated to the Chanteclers. I am hoping to have both the partridge and whites in my backyard flock.

Our PCs from Ideal are doing well, though I don't think Laura is laying yet. She's always been reserved, Dee would jump in my lap with Echo (Australorp) this summer when I brought earwigs. No sharing if THEY had anything to say about it. My PCs don't sound like "normal" chickens and I can't even think of a way to describe their sound. Kind of a trill rather than the bok bok of the other girls.

Welcome to the thread and BYC.

This is my partridge Chantecler, I absolutely love her.

Thanks. I would show her but probably the reason I was able to get her for fairly cheap, you probably can't tell from this picture but she has more of a rose comb than cushion comb. But she's still the prettiest hen I have.

Ideal is in Texas so if they can raise them there you should be ok where you are at.
Chances are Ideal has a controlled environment. I highly doubt they have a large flock of Chanteclers running around outside. Predators, disease, and environmental factors are not something a hatchery can afford to deal with.

The girls were out playing in the snow today. Got a couple of good pictures of Dee

Here is one that shows the pattern on her feathers.

Hello all you Chantecler peeps. I am considering this breed due to my location at 7500 feet above sea level in Colorado and was hoping to get some questions answered by y'all. At what age do the pullets begin to lay on average? How do they perform as layers? Do they lay as well in winter as they do in summer providing the necessary light but not necessarily heat? How do they do in the heat of the summer? What size eggs do they give? How large do the cockrells get and do they make good table birds? Are they a very noisy breed? Anything else I should know about before taking on the breed? Thanks for your input.
