Chantecler Thread!

Gorgeous! I love this breed! I am interested in raising some this coming spring! I feel sorry for my birds now, the house is sitting in 6" of snow:( But i covered the run so they can still walk around but it's still cold and miserable...

Wow! Chickenbike, those are some gorgeous birds.

Oh, no! Another breed to add to my list!

Hi Tim, I would say 6 weeks is about the earliest you would be able to see a noticeable difference in the Partridges (White Chanteclers cannot be sexed until much, much later). Mostly you see more abundance of black and solid red feathers on the cockerels. The pullets will have a solid red head and then an even pattern in the feathers from neck to tail. I'll attach some photos from my 2008 hatch which should give you an idea.

Thanks. I'm still confused! I have some that will be six weeks shortly, I'll have to take some pictures and get your opinion.

Chantecler almost seem to be a forgotten breed. Anyone with buffs? I'd love to see them. The partridge are beautiful too!

Here are my three six-week-old chicks.

Does it look like one boy and two girls or two boys and one girl? The two on the top (especially the one on the right) have the "solid red head and then an even pattern in the feathers from neck to tail" so I'm guessing they're females. But, there is no "abundance of black and solid red feathers" in the one in the bottom left, so I am left wondering.

Thanks in advance for your help.
