Does anyone know about adding charcoal or wood ash in the coop to detoxify the chickens? I have found several sites on this but was curious if anyone does this..we have a coal burning stove and we burn wood in our fireplace. Which one would be ok for my girls? Thanks in advance! :)

I use wood ash and dm for a dust bath. I agree coal ash wouldn’t be good.

If there's ash and coal anywhere on my yard, my chickens will find it. I will find them dust bathing and eating it. Black dirty chickens and black poop, every time.
Last winter, I mixed wood ash, peat moss and sand. Very dusty stuff but they loved it.

Curious that anyone burns coal for heat anymore......is that common in your area?
