Charities

There is a point in which a person can not be held responsible for what someone else does with what is given to them.

I would illustrate this as a bit like paying taxes. I am legally obligated to pay taxes, and I am told by the bible to pay my taxes. But I don't agree with how the government spends some of tax dollars. I can say that I am anti war for one thing.Still I can not be held responsible for how the government decides to use my tax dollars. So I for one do not spend a lot of time thinking about my tax dollars, and what they may have been spent on.

A number of large charities are run much like the government. You don't have any control over how your gift is going to be used. I doubt that God will hold against you if it's spent on something you don't agree with. It doesn't mean though that the charity isn't still worthy of support.

I also believe that anytime you give to a charity, that you are giving a gift. Once a gift is given, you no longer have a say in how a gift is used. So continue to give with an open heart, and enjoy the thought that you have done the best you can.

As others have noted Planned Parenthood does so much more than just abortions. If 90 percent or more of the donations are used for the overall good of the community, and you believe in another persons right of choice, then I just don't understand the problem. Your support for PP, will never require you to have an abortion. It may be that any single one of your dollars will ever be spent on an abortion.

I personally could never consider having an abortion. But then I also believe in very strict morals, so I have never found myself in the same place as other women have. I will say though, that I did face the issue with one of my daughters. We learned before she was born, that she was not going to live very long, and would be facing major health problems. I made the choice to give birth to my daughter, but too this day I could never fault another woman for let a child like my daughter go before she was born. That is the right of personal choice. I am not on this earth to police anyone else, but myself.

I think you could drive yourself crazy trying to figure out a totally safe charity. Perhaps by simply giving to your church, you can have the security, that your charitable donations will be used according to your beliefs. I have done this myself, and I have faith that most, if not all my gift has been used to help others. It's nice to know that my church doesn't have any paid clergy, and low overhead costs.

Another option would be to give to the American Red Cross. As far as I can tell they are using the donations for disaster relief, and helping people in crisis. There is simply a time to let go of what you want, and let the gift of a charity donation, simply be a gift given with an open heart.

The people that then use the gift given, are the people that will need to answer to your higher power, and not yourself.

I was surprised to find so many comments coming back here today . For starters i would like to say i was very offended by original comment that had been made by koren women scrubbing floors - it was a direct hit against three generations of women , who have done just that - we clean floors for a living altho no longer scrubbing on our hands & knees . I thought you were personalily attacking me & my mother and grandmother . For my mis reading i am sorry . But still i am not a troll or scammer or trying to start a fight , regarding right or wrongs of beliefs . You have pegged me wrong - as i you maybe ?
No i have little computer knowage . I have been working since i was 14 and education basically wasnt there . Was too hard with too many siblings in family for me to worry about education instead i foucused on helping support my family . I do not have computer . I use my daughters , when i come for medical .
My questions were just that questions . I dont know alot about how internet works . Someone gave me a lead on how to find what i was looking for . I didnt know how to find it . And i thank you . Maybe the quote i copied wasnt the best one but was one i was reading and yes i was surprised . Shocked and so disapointed . Feeling igorant for not knowing .
My personal choice was what i was fighting & to find out by giving to help in turn is given to planned parenthood . And they paid for tv ads in election . Why ?? Why wasnt the moneys kept where it was suspose to be when foolish people like me tryed giving back when these charities led me to believe it was . Does that make any sense ?
Like i orginally stated i didntv need another fight in my life . And as someone bought to my attention is called debate . I am no good at debating and my emotions are so raw .. I am tired . Ive had a good life and thought to help others was always the right thing . I have never spoke out against others using pp . I will not judge them for doing so . I dont know why they use it nor live no where near one .
My search is like a slap in face . I have found very few who do not give somehow or other to pp . But i have decided as someone bought to my attention to do , look closer to home . And i dont mean family. I have found one local family who helps with foster careing children with disabilities . They adopted several . I know not yet what or if they need help but is a lead .

For any who did think the worse of me i am sorry i caused that . I didnt mean to . To capvin i am sorry i blew up at you & said things i can not erase . I truely thought you were being cruel for a race we cant not change and for working jobs no one else would do . I ask if you can please forgive me for my ingorance & bad attitute .

Maybe there are other options out there where you can help. Ronald McDonald houses are always needing help. People to help provide meals, or donations of food etc. You can adopt families for Christmas and buy their holiday meal and/or gifts for the kids. Do you have any non profit agencies in your city that helps kids, like providing books or other non monetary items you could buy for. Coats for kids programs, soldiers for toys, etc... if you buy the products then donate it, you know your money will be spent to help someone. Or what about donating time or food to soup kitchens or senior centers? You can go to your local animal shelter and ask what they need and go buy it for them...

There are always ways to help people without "giving" away money to a cause that may not be all that worthy in your eyes or spend the money the way you want... if you need that kind of control over the donation, look into programs where you can help directly.
