Chat N Chicknfun Thread

Having a good visit with the inlaws here. Hatched this morning two sulmtalers and nine silkies. A couple more are pipped. Inlaws have been oooohing and ahhhhhhing all morning.

Congrats on your new turkey poults! They do forget to eat and drink! Do you have any baby chicks that you can put in with them to teach them to eat and drink? From one minute to the next they forget to eat and drink. My chicks kept mine going. They are fun, and so sweet enjoy them! What kind of turkey did you get?

I though about getting them a chick to eat with, but the feed store didn't have any the right age. Also, I have 24 ish 10 week old chicks, AND all those eggs that might/could hatch on Wednesday. But, I was just informed that the feed store is getting Frankin-chickens in on Monday. I have never raised Frankin-chickens.....maybe I will go get one to put in with the turkeys....those can probably eat the higher protein feed. Hummmm

Bama, so happy that you have hatching chicks! :D

Oh, forgot to say, the turkeys are the giant white ones. So, for meat. I haven't even researched them at all. I don't even know at what age I can process them.... Silly me. I do have a pen to put them in though, as soon as they are big enough to not be eaten by jays.

But I didn't put the turkeys in with the 10 week chicks.... So they are still by themselves...the kids and I are taking turns, ALL DAY LONG going to them and pecking at their food dish for them, silly things. Frankin-chicken, a Cornish cross. I don't think those are real chickens.....so I call them Frankin-chickens...doesn't everyone? :D Which is also why, if those silly things (the turkeys) still aren't eating well on Monday, I will go get one or two Cornish cross chicks from the feed store (AKA Frankin-chickens) to put in with the turkeys. I am thinking that the higher protein feed cant be too horrid for the frankin-chickens, and it doesn't really matter if it *is* bad for them, since they will be butchered as soon as they are old enough.

Some ppl on the turkeys for 2013 thread say that if they put the feed on some tin foil that the turkey will eat it off the shiny foil. Just a thought... lol And they also put colored marbels or rocks in their water to keep them from drowning.
Thanks for the Frankin chicken cornish cross info! how funny!

Franken Chickens.....That's Funny!!!!!!!
Hope your turkeys do well, Alaskan!!
Bama- glad your IL's are having such a great time with the hatching!! Sounds like it is going well!! AAAHHHHHH, to have new baby silkies.........what color are they? I have my silkie hen on eggs right now....day 12, I think, or 13.......Only 3 are her eggs.
Speaking of Franken chickens.......I have no idea what will hatch out of the 2 blue ee eggs I put in there. The roos that are in with my ee girls are: 1 golden sebright, 1 silver silkie, 1 WC blue polish, and my mutt silkie/leghorn, Winter........OMG, there's no telling what will hatch there- scary......LOL

So I guess you are getting my rain, Tony- Nice of me to give you a day off, right?......LOL

OK, I got more done on those blasted pens yesterday.....not much, but I currently have only one piece of wire to put up on the top, and 2 doors to make and attach- then it is in with the chickens!!!!!!!!!!! What a never ending saga this chickening is..........
