Chat N Chicknfun Thread

The problem is that I want to pick as close to only one breed as I am capable of.

The Rhode Island are so dark though.....I am not sure if it is a cheerful enough color.

I want to pick a breed and work at improving it, and not buy chicks anymore.

But I am having such problems with the choosing. I have always had mixed flocks in the past, but I have never had any of the kinds I am now considering.

I am considering:
RC Dorking, white or colored

RC Ancona

Dominique

RC Rhode Island

And then one of the following:
Spitzhauben, Golden Campine, Redcap, or Golden Hamburg

Doesn't sound like just one breed, does it?

When I first went to buy my first chickens I had no idea what breeds there were or which ones were the best! I just bought what they had at tsc 12 ba's. But I did know that the EE's lay different colored eggs and that some can lay a pink egg! I bought 8 EE's! none of the are laying yet so I still have no idea what color eggs I will get from them! But I have already made arrangements for more EE"s next year, the guy that did my NPIP testing has a hen that lays pink eggs, so I asked him to sell me some of her chicks next spring so that I might stand a better chance of getting a pink egg! lol Crazy I know! But I can't help it, I want a pink egg layer so bad!!!!

Mine are around 16 weeks right now. I have 8 pullets and 2 cockerels. Got lucky with this st. run. These were taken about a month ago. They are now molting again. Losing there tail feathers. HRIR's are a true DP bird. I have Production Reds. Just not the same. In any way shape or form.

Tony, Your birds are very pretty!

Look what I found in the nesting box the other day. Had it's mouth around an egg. I grabbed it by the back of the head and squeezed. The egg slide right out.
