Chat N Chicknfun Thread

So sorry you had to be out in all that rain! Glad your pens did not flood!
Our back yard flooded nearly into our shed... I put down a whole bag of pine shavings yesterday but it is not enough! The pen is so flooded that my chickens are full of mud! But hopefully it will dry out some!
I wondered if ya'll got any of that mess.

Unfortunately, like you, our pens flooded from the run off as it traveled downhill towards lowlands and then to the branch...soggy mess. Spent today getting old shavings out, putting new shavings in 2 pen areas, still have 4 more to do tomorrow...Skeeters!!!

I think I'm going to do like Alaskan.....No More Rain!!!! Chirp doesn't like rain! If something needs watering, Chirp will water it! :lau

Brilliant plan, Alaskan agrees completely! (Though, if we are going to control the weather, Alaskan prefers a hard drizzle, for about one hour, from 4 to 5 am.)

We are so flooded, and it's not done yet! But on the bright side we have been in a drought for so many years that maybe all this rain will finally bring us out of the drought! I know we have been loosing alot of old trees from the drought!
Enough already!!!

Hate to hear that Lady...we are still cleaning up debris and out the pens....Just wondering, did/has it affected any of the catfish farms? Meanwhile, step at a time, day at a time...how are the eggs doing? Have the chickies made it there yet? Hope you are able to get your flock/pens dried out real soon! Hopefully today is the last day of wiring...got to go get busy....

I dk about the catfish farms. We also have debris everywhere.... I am still only getting one egg a day or sometimes 2. I have 13 hens and no eggs? But my EE's are 2 weeks younger than the BA's so we will see.... But out of the 8 that should be laying? who knows. How long before the eggs will be full size do you think?

Hope you get your buildings all wired up!

Monsoons are here in Arizona been so hot and dry the rains are welcome. I worried about the chickens as they had never seen hard rain. Went out to check on them and found each one sitting on chairs and the bbq ect. They were actually liking the rain but chose not to sit in the mud. Luckily we live above the flood plain. I love the storms love to watch the lightening and the wildness of the wind. My newest assistant is terrified she screams and tries to hide but then when I asked her to lock up the coop yesterday she swore they might bite her. Give me six months with her and I will uncivilize her. At least toughen her a bit.
I got my first 3 eggs out of my babies yesterday I guess that means they are all grown up. Now I begin to plot getting new babies past DH.Good morning to all.

My chickens like the rain also they will sit on their roosts in the rain all the time. I think this chicken bit is more than I thought is was! I just ordered over 40 chicks that will be here next week! Now I see your in the same frame of mind! What's up with this chicken math????

I am so very excited!

So, summer is close to over, but I got

1. A chicken tractor (moving it is WAY difficult, but it is an extra coop)

2. The old chicken coop totally insulated and painted

3. Two poop trays in the coop

4. One poop tray in chicken shed

Oh, and an ugly, but predator proof 8x8 chicken yard, and soon to have a pretty but still perfectly predator proof 12x18 or something like that chicken yard
