Chat N Chicknfun Thread

Congrats on your new chicks! And your plywood bator looks very cool! Do you have more pics of it? I would love to show my DH so maybe he could make us one to use next year?
This is when I first got it. I changed a few things. Going to build a few cooler-bators when the hen side of my new area is done. There pretty easy to build. I have a great vid for those.

Very cool thanks for sharing your pics! I appreciate it very much! I saw the video you posted for Bama1 to look at. I was talking to my DH about it last night. But I was wondering if it would cost as much to build one as it would be to just go buy one? Do you know? Thanks

actually 50 to 75 is still about what most people charge when you buy them and they ship ..so prob still close to that .. maybe a little more .. but is a lot and some of that is for the special box they prefer you to ship them in ..

To me that is alot. I would just go buy some chicks and see what I got. Or go to a show or a chicken auction or something like that.
My smaller Brown Leghorn is mean! He pecks and chases all the babies and hurts my hens! He's going to freezer camp! The other one I don't need so not sure if he's going to auction with some of the others or what yet. My DH will have to decide.

Sorry your having to work so hard!
What kind of eggs are you hatching?

Actually, the work is good.. :D

Summer is always like that...there are so very many things that can only be done in the summer, that constant work just has to happen. My friend already has ten cords of wood chopped and stored! I haven't started on wood yet...I have been doing garden and chickens, garden and chickens, chicken chickens and chickens! Hehe

But I have lots of infrastructure repair to do this summer.

My eggs are two olive eggers, one blue egg that would hatch an olive egger but I am pretty sure it is a clear... And the other 19 are Black Copper Marans!!!

My incubator was so wonky in the beginning that I was worried that I wouldn't get any chicks, but I have since seen veins in one of the olive eggs. I am just worried that, because of my less than perfectly functioning incubator, that I won't end up with any chicks......and that would be so very very disappointing!

Just from what we watch on T.V. about how hard everyone has to work all summer to get ready for winter again looks so exhausting!
But I am glad you are happy! That's all that is important!

I have lived in the snow for short periods of time but that was it. I like the snow for short periods. We go to Tenn. every now and then. It snow last year while we were there!

I hope your bator will work for you! And that your eggs all hatch!

I have never hatched any eggs, don't even own a bator. But we may need one this fall for turkey eggs? Who knows?
Hopefully!
