Oh, please do!

After all of these years having hatchery chickens, I am planning next year to go to only two or three QUALITY breeds (so not from a hatchery). But am not yet completely set as to which breeds I want.

I love the older breeds.

These are some of my Production Reds.






Compared to the HRIR's!!




Notice beck color, leg color feather color. Also my 31/2 month old roo is almost as big as my older Production Red roo.

WOW, I am supposed to get 4-6" this coming week!! We may all end up in an ark- No I don't have one built.....yet

I am hoping that I don't end up with a cocci problem after, like Missy Chirp!!!! I am reporting that I broke a finger yesterday......yup did it to myself.......cant even blame DH for it.....LOL Now I can't do anything towards the pen, which I did nothing towards yesterday.....Holy Guac- I am so screwed!! I have my day pen full of chickens, and nowhere flat enough to put it on higher ground.

Oh noooooo! So sorry. Painful and debilitating.

Oh chickadoodle too will have a rainy day. It rained off an on all afternoon and evening and looks like it rained some this morning early. How is the eggbound chicken?

Tony, thanks so much for the pictures and answer.

I just keep wondering about breed temperament, since this year was the first time I had picking after blood feather problems, and I was wondering if it was the breeds I got. The set up was the same as in previous years...but this was the first year they were trying to eat each other. Yuck!

I want to pick breeds next year that are very unlikely to do that.


And chicknfun! What ya doing breaking yourself? OUCH!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been on here in so long, lots of new peeps since I've been gone! Can't beleive how many posts there are now, never knew it would grow like this from that first night me silver and chickn were acting like loons so chickn started this, so cool!
Anyway I had a baby call not even 24hrs die last week it was so sad. I'm getting two more batches of shipped eggs sent out on monday, 6 more domestic teal duck eggs since I only had one hatch (a girl) and 12 more sq snowy call duck since only one girl in that batch. Those both were hard hatches 5 out of seven of the teals were wrong end pippers and I noticed to late or I could of intervened and only one call made it to lockdown since i only started with 3. This is my last hatch for the season!
We had a horrible scare, my 3yr old got really sick and her fever spiked to 104.3 so we ended up rushing her to the er and it was a uti that turned into a kidney infection. It was one of the scariest things I've ever seen. Her lower fever broke and she woke up from a nap uncontrollably shaking (almost convulsing) lethargic and grimacing. It went from flu like before she fell asleep to that just during a 2hr nap. They put her on antibiotics and within 48hrs she was almost completely back to herself. Now she's really back to her bratty crazy self, i never thought i could be so happy to see her through a fit! But we have a follow up with her dr on Tuesday an he's supposed to order a renal ultrasound to make sure it's not an actual kidney issue that cause it all. So I need good vibes and prayers!
