Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

He's at his wit's end. It's the first time he's hit her in over 20 years of marriage. I'm amazed he's put up with her this long, tbh. He's had 3 strokes, costing him the use of his left arm. He recently fell in the shower and broke a bone in his foot. He has chronic lung infection. He's 18 years older than her, and he weighs probably about 105 lbs soaking wet, as they say. You'd think she'd do everything she can to take care of him but ... well, she doesn't. I'm not sure she realizes that if/when he dies, she'll be broke and homeless. I'm sorry, I don't mean to rant or dump here. It's just that, like you were saying, she's one of so many people who need help for mental illness but don't know how to get it, or maybe there just isn't anything available for them.

I've got bread rising, I have to go take care of it.
Where we are in the southern US, there are so very few resources. At one point, I think we only had one juvenile psych facility in our state. I'm not sure if that's changed. And as expected, it was always full. There aren't many for adults either. Same for addiction recovery.

Many people with mental health issues end up homeless and in and out of the jail systems for petty crimes. Until it's not petty anymore and someone gets killed because a person never got help. That happened just the other day. Then it's time to blame the police for not locking them up "for good." But that's obviously not legal, feasible, or remotely an answer. A vicious cycle of blame shifting and no solutions.

You and your family are in my thoughts. :hugs

Looks like it got a bit heavy here while I was gone :hugs Hugs and well wishes all the way around!

My oldest 2 bantam cochins are red females. Then the 14 chicks are 1 white female, 2 partridge females, 3 black males, 2 buff females, and the rest are buff males, except maybe one is red. He's feathering out slower than the rest and his feathers do seem a little darker. So 6 females and 8 males. I'll keep all of the ladies, but only 1 male. And they're all so handsome, lol, so I'm not sure who yet.

Don't fall for those boys' big, sad eyes--you'll end up with an extra 10 or so still hanging around like I have :th

Color-wise, I don't think you have an optimal male to keep for the varieties of females you have, so I'd focus on temperament when picking your keeper, unless of course you planned to separate a variety out to hatch pure chicks from at some point. One thing I will say about the boys is that their temperaments can be a lot when they're young. I would not keep any that are outright aggressive to you, like ones that flog or come charging at you aggressively or anything like that. However, some of my best boys were bitey as cockerels, especially when I would pick them up like to move them to another pen or something, and they mellowed out as they matured.

Good thanks! You!?

Busy, as you probably can tell by how long it took me to respond to this 😅 Hope you're still doing good!

Oh, forgot to say! I hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving (/ a nice Thursday for those outside the U.S.)!

I figured! But yeah, I’m still good, thanks.

Blech, snow :sick Personally, I'm ready for winter to be over and it's barely started here!
I kind of feel that in a way because my hands are already SO cracked and irritated and it’s not even officially winter yet BUT!!!!! I’m excited for snow LOL we haven’t had like any snow for like at least a few years. We used to get a lot. I miss it.

I'm northern enough in Indiana that we get lake effect snow every year here, but I don't think even if we hadn't had any here in a while that I'd ever miss it, honestly. Pretty much since I took over the chickens, I've disliked snow. Trudging through it to feed them, breaking ice out of waterers, shoveling snow to keep it from blocking doors, just ugh to all of it. Having to drive through it because I have obligations has majorly compounded that dislike!

Right now we're being hit by a winter storm that could bring almost a foot of snow along with it. Not looking forward to trying to get to campus on Monday. 🥶

I’m sorry! I can totally understand disliking it then. I think I actually did too when I still had the chickens. It’s such a PITA trudging out there LOL but now I just have the dog LOL
