Chat Thread for the New Crazy 24 hour Auction

Quote: Here I do not pay for anything except for my hatchery permit ($10.00) which according to the laws here, I have to have in order to sale eggs and birds or chicks and hatching eggs. And I have to admit that with the bird flu wiping out whole turkey farms across the country I need to stay up on my turkey as that is all I have now. I have gotten rid of my chickens except for my layer flock to make room for more turkey. And luckily my turkey are in covered pens so should stay safe.

I don't know what she is using but I think any type of food colouring would work, I just grab the hen in question so her vent is facing me and directly squeeze a few drops just at the top of the vent.

The gel I literally squirted just inside the vent. They'll pull it up furthur in. He liquid I just dripped on the vent and they'll suck it in on their own. The majority of it is pooped put quickly but enough stays for about 4 to 7 days to streak color on the eggs.

You could use the paste. The paste would require smearing inside the vent more than the gel. Hence, another reason for the rubber gloves!

What you want is a high color concentration for lasting effect. The liquid from the grocery store would probably work, but it is rather dilute, so would not show up as well as the paste or gel. I use pink and orange on green eggs currently. The lighter the eggs, the lighter colors you can use. If I were going to do it with a dark egg laying hen like BCM, I would use a blue or purple, though I haven't tried that yet.

I didn't really want to do any insertions. That one case of prolaspsed vent gave me the heebe jeebies.

yeah, the gel and liquid are easier. I wouldn't want to stick anything way up in there. The other two you can put right at the end andthey'll pull it in.

Anyone needing the wide packaging tape for shipping eggs? My local Kroger just had the gold dispenser seal it brand for .69 a 55 yard roll. I cleaned them out. Normally that tape is about 2.50 or higher for a roll with a dispenser.

Quick question:
Is it better to ship eggs at the beginning of the week?
Have any of you had bad luck shipping Fridays or Saturdays?
It is my understanding that the mail is still moving on holidays and weekends.
Im asking because I have had a few people requesting a Monday shipment. Is there logic to that?

I do not ship on Mondays unless the recipient REALLY wants it. That is a bad day for our local sort center and packages sent on Mondays seem to take the scenic route to their destination. I ship on Tues, Wed, Fri, or Sat. Thursday shipments have too great a chance of getting caught at the PO over the weekend. Friday and Saturday shipments seem to get wherever they are going by Monday.
