at least it's stopped raining! We need to be able to send you some of our searing summer winds! Have most of your birds survived so far?

Most of them survived. I lost a few. It could have been so much worse.

The multiple power outages ruined a lot of eggs in the incubators (except for the quail eggs. Those things are incredibly tough!).

I had several kinds of eggs incubating that I had bought and paid for. Some didn't hatch at all, some hatched very poorly.

Just before all that horrible weather started, I had bought Blue Slate turkey eggs. 3 have hatched, but one of those doesn't look good. That makes some mighty expensive turkeys. I'm just sick about it. Turkey eggs usually hatch good for me, even shipped ones. My own Midget turkey eggs almost all died in shell. And now I don't know whether I'll have more to set this year. I sure wanted to build up my turkey numbers for next spring.

@chickadoodles can probably help you with turkey eggs.

I'm glad it wasn't worse. :hugs I can sympathize with bad hatches altho mine haven't come from power outages. PO has been brutal to the last number of shipments I've gotten. Had 6+ broken eggs in the last box I got. :( I may have to see if Express shipping them helps. Tried FedEx and they weren't much better and they didn't deliver them the day scheduled because of bad weather (understandable) the next day they did the same thing even tho the weather was gorgeous. DH sweetly went and picked them up for me because I was super nervous bout them a rattling around Another day in the truck. It's a gamble I guess and when you can't find the birds you want local or can't/don't want to ship chicks or young birds in you do what you have to.

Quote: I know this whole year so far has been so hard on so many. Ladycat my heart goes out to you! Here in AL. I saw a post that someone said the PO is now charging another 10.35 per shipment of hatching eggs or chicks! And they will put a fragile sticker on the box! lol like that will make a difference! We should all pitch in and start our own chain of delivery from coast to coast! I think it would be cheaper and safer!

The pony express was quickly run over by the USPS. I think the chicken express would be, too.
