Chat Thread for the New Crazy 24 hour Auction

I'm trying to cope with disaster here.

Friday night we had a big tornado outbreak in my area. Some towns were extensively damaged. MULTIPLE vortexes swept through my little town. Fortunately nobody was hurt and there was no major damage to houses. Some barns were flattened, trees were down and roofs damaged.

But we got torrential rain with the system. The tin got blown off my chicken pens, and nest boxes blew around. Some nest boxes got their tops blown off.

I've been wading through ankle deep mud trying to put things to right. My poor chickens are staying on their roosts and on top of intact nest boxes, trying to avoid the mud the best they can. They are thickly caked with mud, and I'm worried about their health. That's a big stress for them.

I've got all kinds of hatching egg orders that I don't know when I'll be able to fill. Which hurts financially because I have a very low fixed income and I still have to feed the birds.

This is a big set back, and I'm physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted.

Hang in there! I'd like to echo Clousert, let us know if we can help! We had similar weather conditions Thursday altho not as severe. Wish you weren't so far away! I'd come help for a day!

Sorry to hear that. I wish I lived closer to help. this may sound crazy but when we had some flooding, I grabbed some old crappy plywood and boards and threw it in the bottom of the coops so the birds could stand on something instead of sinking in mud. If you have any tarps or plastic you can wrap any of the coops with could help since with weather keeps coming till you get the tin back on may help also. Kind of like a band-aid. I grew up in Kansas and I know what that world is like. Sounds like it got a little close for comfort. Hang in there and my prayers are with you. Take a deep breath and just go at it, you got this!

I will still be here waiting on those stupid turkey eggs,..... even if it takes till next year.

I am so sorry. Like others have said, I live too far away to help in person. I do wish I could. Keep us posted on how everything is going.

Ladycat I am so sorry I wish like most on here that we were closer to come help. I hope and pray that your needs and the needs of your town and state will be met.

Just a thought here but maybe you could contact some local animal rescue's and see of maybe they might have some people that could come donate some time to help and possibly some resources.

Have you joined your local Where Am I, Where are You?-thread for Ok? That's a great place to start casual chit-chatting, asking questions, posting pics and general goofing off. I am pretty much just a "lurker", like you. Somehow, I've managed to get 100+ posts, probably mostly on my local threads.... I also subscribe to thread to get emailed with updates daily, so I'm always on the site daily. Get chatty so you can bid if the chance arises! :caf :woot

I am sorry to hear that. We just got most of our pens dry from a week of steady rain. I think it must have rained 12 inches. Some pens are still wet and you sink when you go in. If you have some pallets or can find some put those in the pens so the chickens have some solid ground to walk on till it drys out. Those storms are headed our way, we could use some rain but I can do without the winds.
