Nice tip! At Lowes it was 15$ for a 2 by 4 (8' long) when I went yesterday.

I don't mind paying that if I'm doing something that only requires one piece of wood (I got it to add an extra roost to the coop) but if I was building a chicken coop... or another building...

And its way cheaper at a lumber yard (4$ a piece) but getting free wood? Who could pass that up! I'll definitely think about that next time I have a big project!

At least that was for most of the wood. Cedar was 20-30$

I think the one I ended up getting was 10$, so still pretty pricy, but better.

Yeah, I don't even look at the prices anymore...just look for people selling/giving away on CL or if I happen to see some on the curb I pick through it. Lots of people redoing their fences right now and throwing all of it away, regardless of condition.

Most of the 2x4's at Lowes are 8', so that's probably right. I'm sure they meant 4'x8' on the plywood though.
