Cheap Cornish X?

Thanks Dogfish! Hmmm - That's a lot smaller than I thought haha!

I don't have the patience for proscessing so unfortunately I'm going to shell out 2.00 per bird to have it done. So that's about 3.55 per bird before feeding. I wonder what it would cost to feed a meaty to 8 weeks so I can get a more accurate picture.

We processed at seven weeks. The birds were good sized. Most, the vast majority, netted 5lbs or more dressed. We went through 800lbs of 20% Grower for 67 birds -- a little over 12lbs per bird. We moved the tractor every day to fresh grass and fed 12 hours on and 12 off.

meyers hatchery - $1.26/ bird straight run. if you want bigger carcasses go with the males only - i like smaller hens whole and the roos cut in half myself.

I have 16 5 wk old roosters in a 4 X 8' and it is way too small, they are just now starting to get decent size and if you do not keep them fat and happy at all times they are attacking each other. I will make my next tractor at least 8x8' and out of PVC. Plywood and 2x4 get heavy trying to move around the yard.

I am getting my next batch from Eagle nest. I have so many great things about them and their birds. They dont have prices but their broilers are .92 cents straight run and shipping is sooooo cheap. $14! So for 25 birds+ shipping its $37. Now thats a good deal I think.

I have to disagree with that. I raised 25 this past winter in a 12 x 12 stall, and wouldnt have wanted it any smaller, they would have been packed. As it was I let them out when they were half grown to waddle around the yard for several hours a day. They were fine in the stall for the first month, but after that it got really crowded.
