Cheapest alternative...

What is the cheapest alternative for a "Top" of a chicken yard. Something like lightweight netting. Someone suggested that netting stuff that goes around round bales, but I'm thinking that might be TOO easy to get through.

I don't remember how much it was but I know it was cheap. We use plastic "chicken wire" for our flighted chickens, never had a problem!

Is that something thats available at the feed store, or Home Depot? I have about a 30x20 area to cover.

We got ours from Menards, it's probably available at lowes or home depot too, 1 sec I will look.

3 foot high by 10 foot long green plastic garden fence is 10 at our home depot. That isn't too much, but a devoted dog or something could chew through it.

COuldn't find it online but DH said it is called vinyl hardware cloth and is in the fencing area of Menards! Hope that helps. He said he didn't find it anywhere else but Menards.

Deer net is 7 feet by 100 feet and about 12.50 at Lowes.

Yep Deer netting works wonders! We pull it tight so that any would be bird swooping down for a snack will encounter a trampoline of sorts. Not had a problem so far and it is cheap. We secure it with zip ties.

Remembering, of course, that this will do nothing against ground predators (dogs, raccoons, etc) that climb over the fence.
