Check out my rescued hen (PICTURE)

It's going to snow here the next two days, so I've set them up with a heat lamp (the bald one is shivering the poor little thing) and a thick bed of pine shavings and hay. They better not get too used to it though, once the snow passes no more lamp! They look totally content snuggled in the hay, something else they have probably never experienced before. My other chooks are all free range, I can't wait to let these girls join them, and watch them dust bathing in the sunny spots in our garden.

BTW, my aunt said the bald one looks like an old floozy out on the town, lol!

The little one with all the missing feathers has already grown an entire coat of new pin feathers, I think she'll look like a new bird within two months tops. They already trust me and run to me for food, and they know how to defend themselves. I gave them cantelope seeds today (straight from the fresh melon) and they were in heaven, lots of beak wiping. Watching them basking in the sun and sipping from the pond makes me soooo happy.

Can anyone tell me how fast a grown pullet will grow a complete new 'coat' of feathers (can't think of the correct terminology right now, lol). She just has the purple stubs showing right now.

Hi Old Geezer, sorry should have replied sooner. B'pt is probably mighty different from when you were here, although I'm sure some of the landmarks and parks are the same. I got these girls on Harral Avenue. I've only been in Stratford for two years, we moved up here from NYC and I'm English originally. I always had a garden growing up, and got my love of animals from my family, my parents are huge bird watchers and nature enthusiasts in general. They think I've gone slightly off my rocker as I now have two dogs, two adult cats and four two week old kittens, three rabbits, eight chickens and about twenty fish! I lived in apts in NYC for almost eighteen years, and having a huge yard has gone completely to my head. You can reach me on [email protected] btw, I'd love to hear how upstate NY is.
