Check out our new silkie Trio [pic heavy!]

The place where we got them was pretty much a dump. They were really dirty, they had about 40 eggs just sitting in the nest (and the eggs were from just 3 hens!). There nails were do long that we ended up cutting about an inch off of each nail on each bird. They smell gross and will need a bath and you should have seen how much rock hard poo and mud was stuck to each ones feet. Also, the poor roo had mites so we went to go buy powder for him yestrday. We are keeping them until the show or maybe after... and if they do produce any hatching eggs we might either hatch/ or sell them. And the only reason we decided $100 was a good number is because if they place in the top 5 trios, the show will pay you $100 for them. Sorry for the long babble, just wanted to explain to anyone who was worried that we didn't have to put any effort into these guys

Plus we had to drive like 3 hours for them. XD Trust me we are doing a lot of work getting these guys cleaned up. We bought them to make money off of them, I don't think that's a bad thing to do.

And they are all white, the color in the picture is horrible.

And yes one of them is a roo.

Update! We haven't even owned them for 2 whole days and we got our first egg! What good girls, they sure know there job! I'm going to wait for a few more days and then set a few into the bator so we can see about fertility. Depending on how that goes, we may reconsider selling them and sell their hatching eggs instead!

I've got to agree, (especially if they are laying) see what you get for offspring before passing them off. I'm no expert but they look nice. If they are from good stock you might get some nice chicks. And make even more money. Good luck! $15 was a good price.

I would have to agree too. Sorry, I sell birds cheap or even at no cost to kids sometimes. I would be really upset if they turned around and sold them. JMO But, they are beautiful birds let us know how they do at the show.

I don't think its bad to buy birds from a bad place for cheap, clean them up and get them show worthy and then make a profit off of them. I understand that you wouldn't want your birds getting sold again, but you obviously actually cared about yours. These birds came from a bad place, we saw their potential, and we're going to sell them to a good show/breeding home. IF we even do end up selling them, which we might not.

Please don't be offended by this, but if you only paid $15 for all three, are you sure you want to turn around a sell them for $100?? Seems like to me you are making a LOT of money on something you didn't put any effort into. You didn't breed or raise them. Just seems wrong to me that IF they are worth $100, the person that put all the effort into breeding and raising them got ripped off. JMO and please don't get mad. I'm happy that you got such a good deal, but maybe if you used them in a breeding program instead of reselling them...

Id also have to agree with the general consensus here. They look cute and all but..

hey, if it sounds to good to be true, it is.

By the way, how do you know they are show quality? Do they meet standards? And I would think that until they place and produce offspring, you wouldnt be able to market them for that price. Just curious.
