Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Good afternoon.
I am still around! :) Hangin with my coop feathered friends. 11 happy, spoiled backyard babies. I love my girls and most have names, some you can name but 2 breeds have more than one so no way to tell them apart but love them all. Enjoy reading posts now and then when time allows. Love BYC- keep it cool.

Hi everyone. We have 60 chickens currently. 3 ducks. 2 geese. 2 highland cattle. 2 cats. 3 dogs. Mini horse. Mini donkey. Busy days here. Working toward rotational grazing cows and chickens.
Wow... 60?!?! That's a fantastically huge flock!

Yup, sounds like a busy and bustling farm! I love the idea of rotational grazing. I've been wanting to setup a chicken tractor to move my small flock around for weed abatement. How are your chickens and other animals getting along?

i guess its been a while since i last posted here, i have been back in england now for over 6 years, from my sisters in france where we had the chickens, just before i came back, we had a goose who was a bit of a problem, who i had a fight with and calmed it down to a point where it would follow me everywhere, i was the only one in the family able to pick it up, we had an african whistling duck drop in the garden one day with a ring. it caused a bit of havoc at the time, all the chickens and even the goose ran away from it as it walked about the garden, the nieces and nephew thought it really funny, i checked to see if it was still there that night and it was nestled next to a little frizzie bantum that was sitting eggs, she was there each night until the eggs hatched, we got her sexed and my mother bought her a mate... he was really young, when the next lot of eggs hatched, we noticed the young cocks where crowing the same tune to the ducks whistle, maybe coz the two of them did it all day and they were trying to imitate it.. by the time i left france they at least a dozen chickens, 3 large ducks she swapped for a couple of cocks, and 2 more geese. so quite the menagerie. a couple of years ago, the lot disappeared overnight, they think a fox got in somewhere..
my new house only has a little gravel garden, about 5mx4m with a few feet width that runs down the back, its fully enclosed but i dont think it would be good for chickens, but it does have a nice shed if i ever turned it to grass and got a couple hens.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing those great pics! It sounds like quite the adventure with your feathered friends! Sorry to hear about the disappearance of your previous flock... that's heart-breaking.

Ya, that might be a tricky spot for a flock, but maybe a few hens would be ok. Keep us posted on your ideas / thoughts about giving it a go!

Wow. Long time. I made my account here when I was in my first year of high school and stayed on a farm with some hens and incubated as a hobby. Downtown living and about to graduate from uni molecular biology now. reminder of where I came from seeing all this again

Oh goodness, thanks @Nifty-Chicken! Things have been crazy the past 9 years. I don't post often anymore but will give you all the inside sc-coop. About 9 years ago I divorced but still kept all my wonderful flock. Things were pretty quiet on the social front trying to get life back in order. I got remarried and all was well. About 3 years after that tragedy struck, a mink killed all of my flock in one night. We eventually added some more birds but they ended up being picked off one by one and with my travel schedule for work I eventually threw in the towel and gave the remaining flock to a friend. Well, this year, I sold my house and moved to a lake house in Western Indiana. I plan to start up a new flock this spring with a coop like Fort Knox. I even got my brother involved in chickens last year to which I also gave him the How To books given to me by @Nifty-Chicken years ago at our Chickenstock! Will keep yall posted and thanks for thinking of me!

I have been so busy! I hope everyone is well. We got 4 baby chicks this year and just put them in with the 4 big kids. It's been the easiest transition I have ever had. The rooster actually danced when he met them lol.

So glad you came to check-in!

Sorry to hear of your divorce... looks like my divorce was around the same time. Glad to hear you kept your flock, remarried, and all is well... even with the mink attack. Those are a predator I'm glad I don't have to deal with!!!

Glad you gave your brother the book! Gift that keeps on giving ;)

Keep us posted as you startup your new flock!!!!

It's good to see you around again! Tomatoes and peppers are always good. I tried planting some tomatoes earlier this year, but I don't think they are doing so well. Did you start them as seedlings or seeds?
Thank you! 😀
My tomatoes were purchased as young plants in cell trays. They were then transplanted from the trays into the garden. 🌱
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with growing your tomatoes. 🙁

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
Hello. Thank you for checking in. I completely forgot I was a member in this group! I have not had any chickens since moving in Sept. 2022. My husband and I lived on 5 acres in Elizabeth, CO and had a great flock. My husband passed away in early 2022 and I needed to move as I couldn't take care of that much land by myself. Now I live in northwest AR, about 4 miles from the MO state line. Next year or maybe later this year, I will be able to set something up.
