Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi everyone.
Have not posted for a while. My flock of 8 was slowing down so I re-homed them to a homesteader back around Christmas. I was also recovering from surgery and didn't want to have to deal with the chickens in the winter.
Since then I have been raising 11 new chicks, a mixture of barred rock, rhode island reds, rhode island blues and one yellow legbar. They should begin laying in about a month or so. Looking forward to fresh eggs again!
It is nice to see you back!

It sounds like the surgery went well too! Enjoy the new flock and those nice fresh eggs. :highfive::yesss:

Hi, and thanks for reaching out. I haven’t been on in a while because I learned everything!😂😂😂

Seriously, though, I have just been so busy on our Homestead! Check out my YouTube channel @MadRiverHomestead.

Chickens, of course, were our first livestock, so I was spending a lot of time on this forum, and I really did learn so much.

Since starting with chickens, we have raised hogs, and last year we added Dairy goats to the Homestead. We kidded in the spring and since then we have added meat goats.

Last year I converted our 8 x 14 uncovered run to a 24 x 14 covered run. Now I am coming to the end of building a new coop. My first coop was made from pallets, so I have to stoop over to clean it. The new one, as you can see in the picture is a walk-in. I will post a video of the build once I am finished.

Thanks again for checking in!
Welcome back! I'm so glad you've learned "everything " so that you can share your knowledge with your youtube viewers❣️

I also hadn't been here for awhile. I lost my flock of golden and silver laced wyandotte's to a weasel in the fall, and was pretty depressed about it. Weasels never used to be a problem around here, so I still had a lot of chicken wire, not hardware cloth, and I paid the price. Or I should say, they did.

I still have two Pekin girls that are 9 years old this spring. They are in 'hospice' right now. They began to wind down together this week and they are now resting comfortably and will probably cross the little duckie rainbow bridge this week. Once they go, I will not have anyone to post about----until I get my act together to fix my chicken coop (needs complete re wiring to fully protect from all predators), and then I will likely return with a new flock to chat about. I miss my chickens. ☹️

I'm so sorry about your flock.

I am sorry about the Weasels!

Best wishes on getting the coop renovated and predator proofed.

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)

No updates from me, unfortunately. We lost our birds a while back to a fox, and city ordinances have changed and I'm not sure if we'll be able to have chickens anymore. But I'd be happy to stick around and offer supportive conversation!

I am sorry about fox attacks!

It is odd that a City would move to get rid of chickens. Can you get a group together to challenge that change?
