Hello,

Working part-time (came out of "retirement") to make ends meet. Hubby is into the chickens (me, not so much) because I also work full time in a ministry and just no time. I enjoy watercoloring, journaling, calligraphy/cursive writing practice and using Samsung Health to keep up with my step count to keep from being totally sedentary. With 1.5 jobs I do not have a lot of time to do the cool/fun stuff. I am hoping with better time management I can get some of that in.

The chickens free range all over the yard (and porch :hit). He and I disagree on how they should be cared for so at my age I choose my battles. I stepped back and don't bother with them.

We've been extremely busy since, I was last on BYC. Clearing our 70 acres, trying ti build our home and caring for animals and gardening. Sadly I've had 3 of my girls die last year one egg bound and 2 by skunk. So that ment making sure the other 4 wouldn't suffer the same fate. This spring I got 4 new chicks to add Cinnamon queens. They are quite the handful but so fun. We are now introducing them to our 3 lavenders and our goldlace. Now it's tome to construct a new coop for our 8 girls instead of 4 So that's what we've been up So far.This site has been so great for helping me learn about my girls, thank you so much.

Cinnamon queens are wonderful chickens.

At the beginning I wanted a dozen hens. I figured that would be easy to care for and clean up after. Not to mention the opportunity to reeeally get to know them and how to care for them. Hubby vetoed and insisted on having 50 (rolling my eyes really hard).

After about of year of chickening the thrill was gone for me. At this point I do not know how many there are. Oh, and I purchased electric fence so they could free range within control and all was needed was the battery. He claimed he had one.

The chickens free range all over the yard, my porch, next door and beyond where there is a swamps area. Thankfully, no one lives next door to be annoyed by them being all over the yard.

At this point I really do not know how many hens are out there. He claims 25, but I doubt it. There is one roo and he brings in a slew of eggs. The heat here in GA has been intense, so during spring some eggs became rotten (not a lot, but still that really stinks).

He still has a dream of owning a homestead; bless his heart. We are for now still at the rental and he goes out to his land where he wants to homestead and does whatever he does out there. Personally, I like it here, 4 acres, quiet.

How is everyone else doing?

You are very busy! I hope I do not have to work when I retire but would likely do some volunteer work.

The number of chickens in the flock can be counted different ways, according to chicken math!
