Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hello ! I haven't logged in for quite some time. I lost two of my chickens last year. One to a hawk and another one, who had previously seemed healthy died in the night. :( But the rest of my flock is doing well. I have 2 ducks and 11 chickens (one of them I recently rescued from a hard life running around town - she's doing great now! ) It has been a super hot summer here in Nor Cal so I have been doing all I can to keep everyone cool, including installing 3 fans in my chicken coop, placing out water pans for them to stand in and misters to keep their favorite area cooler.
I am sorry you lost the two!

It has been very hot this summer. My PGE bill this month is crazy high!

Hey,

I haven't posted in quite a while. Our oldest gets married in March 25', our middle got married in June and my youngest is a Sr. She will play college softball , so managing our children becoming adults.

I still have 20 birds

Thanks for checking in
Between marriages, school and sports you do have a lot going on!

I hope you get some time to enjoy the birds.

Thank you for checking in. We really appreciate your website - it's an incredible resource!

We lost one of our Barred Rock hens to (what we think was) sour crop coupled with extreme heat (100+F) a couple weeks ago, but the rest of the hens are doing very well.
They've been getting plenty of grit with their food and electrolytes in their water. 👍

I am sorry that you lost one!

The heat has been terrible this summer.

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
I just started a new flock this spring. so I had no chickens to brag about!

Hi all-thanks for reaching out! I didn't realize how long its been altho I do cruise by now & then usually looking for an emergency solution. I have one again, today but, this probably isn't the right place to write about it. We have about 20 chickens 6 of them roosters. Nobody wants roosters even 'tho they are such characters. (Or they want to eat them!)We have 6 cats (people keep dropping them off!) and a large collieXmirima.I am really into gardening especially flowers.I am grateful for sites like this one. They have taught me everything I know about chickens and goats!

Thanks Nifty for touching base! I have been absent a while bc we had a great racoon massacre last summer. I think I posted some but replies were a little discouraging. Every coup and run are different. I was made to feel a little guilt and was not starting a new flock yet. I bought a new incubator and plan to hatch soon, so I do plan to return to the forum. Happy Chicks!
