Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)

Trigger warning Health issues!

Hi! Been more than a little busy here! My husband works long hours (as do many) at a stress filled job at a saw mill and recently, at just 51 suffered a massive heart attack. We were very lucky and he survived, but it's been an adjustment for us both. I'm disabled from a motorcycle accident that happened years ago so we both have a lot on our health plate. So things have just been busy.
I was lucky enough to get 8 chick's from a friend. All just kinda thrown in there, diffrent breeds. Only 2 were hens. Thelma and Louise are now in my flock and everyone is adjusting. My friend felt badly so many were roosters so I got 7 more chick's. Looks like I have 3 MAYBE 4 new hens. I'll have to take some better pictures of each girl and try to post them in a new thread. One new lady is a cochin mix, as is one of the roosters. I think he'll be handsome, bur I have my Ollie boy and I don't think a second boy is a good idea.
I'll try to be more active. I have so much to learn but I do love my flock so very much!!

I hope that your Husband continues recovering from the heart attack!

My DW was in a motorcycle crash years ago too and has some disability form it-- mostly with her left arm.

Good news on getting more hens!

We've been busy here with the garden, canning and preserving, kayaking with the family and teaching art lessons. Summer is coming to a close for this teacher so it's back to crazy busy before I know it but it's been a fun and productive summer.
I came in today in search of advice for my mallard hen who seems to have lost her voice.
Teaching can be very busy!

I have seen it with my DW and from working at UC Davis.

I hope your Mallard hen gets her voice back!

Hello,

Working part-time (came out of "retirement") to make ends meet. Hubby is into the chickens (me, not so much) because I also work full time in a ministry and just no time. I enjoy watercoloring, journaling, calligraphy/cursive writing practice and using Samsung Health to keep up with my step count to keep from being totally sedentary. With 1.5 jobs I do not have a lot of time to do the cool/fun stuff. I am hoping with better time management I can get some of that in.

The chickens free range all over the yard (and porch :hit). He and I disagree on how they should be cared for so at my age I choose my battles. I stepped back and don't bother with them.
Wow, you really are quite busy!!! Thank you for popping in to update us.

Oh, and I definitely hear ya on the free-ranging chickens on the porch. I'd be way more inclined to let our girls free-range if they'd be more selective on where they poop! LOL!

Welcome back, I hope your husband recovers well from his heart attack. It definitely sounds busy at your place, would love to see a pic of Ollie!

Welcome back to our community! Kayaking is quite fun, are you doing just lakes and ponds, or are you doing rivers and oceans?
