Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi everyone,
Wowsers a lot of posts to this thread! Glad lots of you trekking along. I had a period of sadness with my little ladies all having gotten quickly wiped out by fox early last year…and had to take a break. Still consider myself junior chicken owner…just recently got another batch and building a pen for our coop. Here’s our story..
Glad to have you back and congratulations on your new babies! They're all very cute! :love :love

That looks like a nice variety. The fox have been busy here too. Sorry about losing yours.

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
Hey everyone! Hope everyone is doing well! I just got some new hatchlings from the incubator today!!

Hello everyone!

I believe I only posted on here once a couple of years ago and have not been very active since, but this community holds a special place in my heart because of all the support and help during a tough time with my hens. My family and I started with six hens back in 2016 and we are now down to our last two. Funnily enough, it's our top and bottom of the pecking order girls that are still standing! Our bottom, sweet Maya who has always been the biggest and most timid hen, has been the one gal who has never really gotten sick (knock on wood x10!!!) and I'm so proud of her for still being here. We love our other hen, Hillary, as well, but Maya has been a real fighter since the beginning after joining the flock a while after our others had already settled in. Two hens is most definitely more manageable than six and I am grateful to still have two whist also appreciating the decreased stress it has brought my family.

I wish everyone in this community well and sending happiness and health to both you and your flock. <3

P.S. Shout out to any POC backyard chicken owners! I'm with you!

That's amazing they are still going strong. 8 years is a good long life for a chicken.

It is good to hear from you!

I’ve had a rough couple of years but my chickens were a little speck of joy in my life. Out of my original 5, one died the first year from a predator attack, one died last year unexpectedly, and while I was away 3 weeks ago, the person watching my flock decided to let them free range. Something took 2 of them. They only found a wing about 3 feet from the coop. I only have 1 chicken left. Does anyone have suggestions for where I can find an older hen? I don’t need a layer, just a companion for my lonely hen.

So very sorry about losing your birds. I would check my local Craig's list. We have a buy sell section that you can check out as well to see if anyone locally is selling.
