Hardware cloth and other side of the roof is next.

I can't wait to cutsify it.

The previous owners of the farmhouse we just bought added on a kennel. They let the dogs roam without cleaning it... we tore it down. Since the wood is 'free', we're recycling all the studs. I know it's not pressure treated, but we'll paint it, seal the bottoms and hope for the best. I won't be upset if I have to replace a few posts in a few years. Things happen. The barn was a shed that was here and being used for kennel as well. So, pretty much everything will be recycled... minus the welded wire and hardware cloth. That'll be bought new.

And we used my husband's siding snips to cut the hardware cloth on the last brooder we made. Worked fantastic. Any tin snips should work.

The coop looks great

Thanks for all the replies.

So today I

Bought the hardware and hardware cloth.

Installed the wire.

Cut a piece of scrap 1/2" plywood for the other side of the roof that had been rotten and cut and installed the rest of the metal roof. Boy that stuff is a bit tricky to work with.

Installed the piano hinge and hook/eye for the access door.
Time- 2.5 hours

Costs-
hardware cloth- $23.78
piano hinge- $4.99 (in sale bin, was 14.99)
strap hinges- $4.79
2 x 4- $2.49
(returned the hasp and carbineer)

Total- 38.54

$1.45 UNDER BUDGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Except I bought 2 lid support thingymabobs so the access roof doesn't fall on anyone's head. These were NOT in my budget.

They cost $10.17

(I still have to install the strap hinges and lid support for the roof, touch up some paint, install some trim around the roof, install 2 side panels where the run meets the coop, add 2 wheels and cutsify a little more. Estimated time for all thatis 1.5 hours more)

Therefore the final cost for this little baby is $48.41 and estimated time is about 8.5 hours.

Gosh I could have easily spent hundreds on one of these things and hours and hours and hours! If you need a small tractor or are a city dweller with 2 hens, this would be a cheap way to go. Find an old dog house.....

The kids insisted on a test run with a few of the flock members. They were all happy inside and very curious outside.

This was alot of fun! I will post one more time with our new bantam babies, if and when they come next week.

Thanks for reading!
