I'm gonna try Cheerios or Whatever-Os I find at the store (love 'em myself) on the chicks.... So far, the only treats they liked of those I tried on 'em are: shredded mozarella cheese, chopped up hard-boiled egg, and MEALWORMS. I tried pumpkin seeds, they all gathered close and looked at them suspiciously. I tried pomegranete seeds and those received the same treatment, although there was evidence of some seed noshing later from the red splotches on that end of the brooder where I dumped the seeds.... I think the cheese shreds just looked like worms.
Oh! Wait! They LOVE garden earthworms, and earwigs!!!!! You should see me knocking earwigs onto a paper plate and running into the house with it before the things crawl out/off of it, for the chicks! (I have eight, from 3 wks to 8 wks old, all in the brooder.)
Cheerios won't go to waste if the girls don't like 'em.
