My DH has been planing some cherry boards for shelves he is building. Consequently we have quite a bit of shavings, is it okay to use these for bedding in my coop?

Cherry can be toxic. Livestock can die from chewing on the trees. I don't know if it's mainly just the bark that's been injured, or if some of it can be in the wood, too. It might be okay, I'm just not sure.

I know black walnut has some toxic properties, that's why I asked. It is from nice dry boards. I'll see if someone chimes in who has actually used it. It's beautiful shavings would be a shame to let it go to waste. Thanks

Cherry has toxins similar to Arsenic.

Its mostly found in the leaves and the cambrium ( the layer just under the bark).

Dry wood chips are safe
