Hi,

I am new to chicks and chickens. I have a silly question......we have 4 silkie chicks and cannot determine the sex yet as they are only 3 weeks old. They have been chesting bumping and challenging each other to sort of "stand offs." Is this common behavior for females or does this mean I have roosters??

Thanks for any help you can provide!

It's common. Chicks need to establish who is boss just like the adults do. Give them another 3 weeks or so before you try and sex them. Two signs of roo's I have noticed, in general, is that roo's feather in slower and some will start to dance to impress the ladies at an early age. I had a 8 week old light Brahma that started to dance for the others. It was hilarious and heart breaking at the same time.
