Chic Chick 'Bator *UPDATED*

A lot of use an Accurite found at wal-mart for $12 or a flukers found at the pet store for $25. Some have other brands but remember cheap doesn't mean it is correctly reading the temps and humidity.

I use the $6-7 one from Walmart. Springfield I think is the name. You can find them with all of the other thermometers (such as outdoor ones) near hardware.

I love my MP bator!!! About to load it up for the 3rd time. I've been in a learning curve with my first 2 hatches, but 2nd was better than 1st, hoping each improves. LOVE my MP bator!

Good luck!

Wow it is so cool to look inside of the egg while candling and see the little chick move around!!!! my first 4 silkie eggs were not fertile

but so far the rest are looking fine. Will Americana eggs become easier to see into as mine are dark green and all i can see is the outline of the veins!?!?

One question about hatch dates do i count the day i got the egg from nest as a day or not? as if i got and egg out on the 21st would it be due on the 10th or 11th?

Candled all eggs and removed 9 un-developing eggs

You begin counting the day the incubation starts - when you put the eggs in the incubator.

If you set your incubator with eggs in the morning that is day 1. If you set your eggs in the afternoon the following day is day 1.

my firist bator was one me and my best friend made we are smart and it held it's temp until I put the eggs in then there was major spikes I always watched it like a hawk opening it closing it throwing a blanket over it. but I think I finally cooked them when I woke up one morning and found the temperature at 130

. Then I saved up and bought a simple Hova-Bator still air with no turner and it works great.
