Chic Chick 'Bator *UPDATED*

I had an idea. I dont know if its already solved, but, you could you thin but sturdy piping, construct a shape like this

You could place the egg cartons in the two side pieces and place eggs in them. The end of the piping comes out the side of the box. You can then turn the end and it will cause the eggs to turn. This may sound confusing, but its quite a simple idea.

you mean like this?

Great I wanted to see if more people had luck doing it like that. I am on day 11 of my very first ever hatch. I bought 26 eggs and on day 7 I had 9 that wasnt fertile and 2 with blood rings. I candled this morning and 1 stopped growing and has blood ring and 1 as nothing like it wasnt fertile but I know it was growing.

The other eggs were swimming around alot but know you can barely see inside the egg. I hope this is normal.

Okay so I built my bator today. It's a beaut. I have everything nice and done with my correct wiring and my thermostat, fan, etc.

Problem is my thermostat has a 12 degree range. I got the exact one that I see in everbody elses bator. I have it set and it turns off at 107.5 and back on at 95. It seems like other people didn't have such a big window of temps.

I've tried moving the thermostat away from the wall so air can get behind it and that took off 4 degrees (it used to have a 16 degree range!) but the range still seems too big.

Any ideas?

Yes thats about what mine did as well. If you have a water wiggler the temp in it should have only changed by a half to one degree. The swing is large if you use a hot water heater thermostat but it still works. I have just ordered the wafer thermostat to replace my hot water one because the swing was to big.

Also adding rocks or sealed jars of water will help stabilize the temp too. Once the rocks or jars of water reach temperature they hold the heat so when you lift the lid to turn eggs, the temp stays higher and takes less time to return to temp because the preheated "heat-sinks".

One of my water heater thermos had a 1-2 degree range, the other was 5-6 degree range. It's not a perfect science but the 3rd one I bought was also a 1-2 range. I ended up with a bator and a hatcher cause I couldn't stop myself from adding more eggs

just to add to the egg turner part of the thread (and i didnt pour over all 55 pages of this awsome thread), this is what i did.

In walmart they have egg cases in the camping area (cost under 2 bucks i think). I flilpped mine open, took an exacto knife and cut out the tabs on the top side that keep the eggs in place (the purpose of this container is to take a dozen eggs camping without breaking. ITs a clamshell hard plastic case about 13x13 or so).
Anyway, i opened it up, ran a 1/2 pvc pipe thru my cooler, JBWelded the egg case at the hinge to the pvc pipe and then put a 1/2 T on the outside to make it easier to turn from side to side. PERFECT... all for under 5 bucks.

hope this helps anyone. And since its plastic, it will outlive us...
