OK, I finished mine today. I made it out of a smaller cooler, I plan to use this one for quail. I placed the fan under the lightbulb so it rests half under the eggs, half in line with the eggs, I hope it will be fine that way. Let me know what you think!

The range seems to vary greatly , like a 5 degree difference between the low and high. I was thinking about trying the heat sink thing to regulate it. I'll give it a little longer thought since it hasnt been plugged in 24 hrs yet.

Make sure the back of the thermostat is not blocked, too.

I wonder why my temps are so awful. I have finally gotten it to a ten degree spread, with a heat sink, fan blowing on the water, moving the thermostat, etc. Not sure what else I can do. Is anyone else having this problem? I feel wierd that it is only me.

The heat sink helps but you are still going to have wide swing in temp. In my Prissy bator the temp swing is between 96 and 102...BUT...the water wiggler temp remains around 99.

I am ordering a better thermostat for my next hatches.

The hot water heater thermostats just aren't meant to keep the temp within 1-2 degrees of where you set it.

Same here, gator. I give up trying to regulate my temps with the HWH thermostat. I never did get it even close to steady. And I tried EVERYTHING. Guess I'm just no good at building a bator! I'm going to order a wafer thermostat, I think, and try that. If nothing else, maybe I can at least get it regulated enough to use it as a hatcher. Thank goodness I have a Brower too.

I have no problem keeping the water wiggler temp right at 99.5F with the HWH thermostat. The air temps can fluctuate 5-10 degrees, but the WW stays right there, and I've had great hatches. I have three of these built now.
